There are many reasons why you might seek counselling or psychotherapy. Most people come from a place of emotional distress or unease of some kind that they want to make sense of and find a way through. Feelings can be intense, particularly during periods of transition when you are at your most vulnerable. Or perhaps you’re experiencing more of a dull ache, a sense that something is preventing you from getting the most out of life or reaching your goals.

Emotional difficulty can take many forms

  • Painful or difficult to manage feelings
  • Anxiety
  • Low mood
  • Creative blocks or a sense of feeling stuck
  • Difficulties relating to others
  • Destructive behaviour patterns

It is not always easy to acknowledge you are struggling, particularly if your livelihood or sense of identity depend on appearing strong and in control.  Even if you want to talk you might be uncomfortable about sharing aspects of your personal life with friends, family or colleagues, or feel they are unable to understand.

Finding space for yourself might seem like a luxury when time is often in such short supply, but regular, weekly sessions with a qualified professional in a confidential and tranquil setting can make a significant difference to your emotional wellbeing.  Counselling and psychotherapy can help you gain a deeper understanding of your difficulties and how they have arisen, a greater sense of personal choice and efficacy, and an enhanced capacity to relate to yourself and others.
